NEW ENQUIRY/ REFERRALS
How it works
Before starting play therapy, the intake process is an essential initial step. This stage involves accepting the family’s referral and gaining a thorough understanding of the child’s history, needs, and therapy goals to ensure a strong foundation for effective treatment.
1
REFERRAL
You’re welcome to reach out about beginning play therapy—no GP or practitioner referral is required. The intake process is an essential starting point, allowing therapists to understand the child’s background, current challenges, and family dynamics.
To begin the journey, we ask if you could please complete the below form. We will then forward you (within 48 hours) a welcome letter that will include a detailed intake form and discuss availability.
2
INTAKE SESSION
The intake session is the first step in your therapeutic journey, designed as a private consultation between you and the therapist. It’s best for children not to attend this initial meeting, allowing open and honest discussions about your concerns and important details.
We’ll explore your child’s early experiences, development, and attachment patterns to understand their needs and determine the most effective support. This session is a collaborative process, with your insights and involvement central to shaping a personalised plan.
Length: 60-120 minutes

COMMENCE SESSIONS
In the first session, the focus is on building a connection and helping your child feel comfortable. They’ll have time to settle in, get to know the therapist, and explore the space. Once trust is established, the therapist will gently begin understanding what might be troubling your child.
During the session, your child may engage in activities like sandtray play, drawing, music, storytelling, or relaxation techniques. These methods encourage self-expression in a way that feels natural and reassuring, supporting your child to share their feelings in a safe, nurturing environment.
Length: 45-60 minutes

REVIEW CONSULTATIONS
After every 4–6 sessions, we arrange a meeting with the therapist to discuss your child’s progress. These consultations allow us to connect and share updates while ensuring your child’s privacy is upheld. We kindly request that children do not attend these meetings. Each Play Therapy journey is unique, with the duration tailored to suit the specific needs of your child.
Length: 45-60 minutes
Please fill out the following forn in as much detail as you can. One for each participant is required.
